Welcome to Twycraft, the online face of the
Ye Olde Eight Bells Shoppe, situated in the ancient borough of Christchurch.
The Olde Eight Bells Shoppe was built in 1450 and is a stone throw away
from the Priory Church, which was built in the late 11th century.
Why the name "Eight Bells"?
It is rumoured that there were 7 bells in the Priory and after the Bell
Ringers finished there rehearsal they came to this building, which was
a public house, to have a drink. This building has been known as the eighth
bell ever since.
Ye Olde Eight Bells was converted from a pub to a shop in 1908. Since
1908 it has served Christchurch with many different trades. Over the past
2 decades it has been a Gift Shop. At the beginning of the year 2000 Ian
& Anita brought the building and the business.
Ian has been trading for over 18 years and brought his craft business
with him and merged it with the gift trade.
Ye Olde Eight Bells now sells many gift and craft products, and specialises
in collectable gifts and needlework. Ian and Anita welcomes you to their
